The FCD have been in operation since 1999. FCD shares neutron beam with the HRPD from the ST2 beam port. A mosaic Ge(331) monochromator with a fixed take-off angle of -45 degree could be mounted between the beam gate and first collimator unit inside the main HRPD shielding. FCD is a conventional two0-axis diffactometer with an Eulerian cradle and used for the structural study of sinngle crystals and for the texture measurements for industrial applications.

Instrument description

The HANARO FCD is installed at the ST2 beam port in the end of 1999 and shares neutron beam with HRPD. A mosaic Ge(331) monochromator with a fixed take-off angle of -45 degree could be mounted between the ST2 beam gate and first collimator unit inside the main HRPD shielding with a beam height of 40mm lower than beam center of HRPD. The wavelength of the neutron beam for this monochromator is 0.997¡Ê. The effective beam size at the sample position is 30mm in diameter.
A detector unit with a single He-3 counter is connected to the 2¥È-table with a counter weight. For fast and wide measurement we have a 2-dimensional position sensitive detector(2-D PSD) without fixed shielding. This year, we are going to make shielding unit of 2-D PSD. This 2-D PSD unit can use alternating each other with the another detector unit with a single He-3 counter.
A CCR-type low temperature cryostat and a high temperature furnace allow temperature dependent structure investigations in the temperature range from 10 K to 300 K and from 300 K to 1300 K.
FCD servers for single crystal structure analysis and texture studies. Typical applications are to analyse the hydrogen distribution, the molecular disordering, the magnetic structure, and the measurement of structural as well as magnetic phase transitions. FCD will serve for struchural studies of materials related to ceramic and protein crystallography.
