Introduction
¡¡
¡¡

- Application for nuclear fuel irradiation tests in order to obtain the characteristics
(fuel temperature, internal pressure of fuel rod, fuel deformation, etc)
related to the study and the development of nuclear fuel in the OR test hole of HANARO
- Main body of the capsule is an open basket type similar to the 18-element fuel
  assembly for HANARO
- Design and fabrication of the capsule is similar to the instrumented capsule, consisting
of a main body, protection tube and guide tube
- Completion of the design verification test in HANARO's test hole (June 2003)

Design Features

¡¡

- Utilization in the studies on the irradiation characteristic of nuclear fuel
  (PWR's, CANDU's and SMART's, etc)
- Application in the study of the development and irradiation characteristic of nuclear fuel for
  outside users
- Length of the capsule main body: about 1 m, diameter of capsule main body: 56 mm,
total length of capsule: about 5 m
- Installation of 3¡6 test fuel rods, length of about 250¡350mm, in the capsule
- Instrumentation consists of a thermocouple, pressure transducer and elongation detector to
measure the fuel temperature, internal pressure of the fuel rod, and fuel deformation,
  respectively

Status and Plan
¡¡
¡¡

- Supporting irradiation tests of a nuclear fuel pellet
- Supporting the production of irradiation characteristics
(fuel temperature, internal pressure of fuel rod, fuel deformation, etc) and the design data
  for nuclear fuel development
- Supporting outside users in the study of the characteristics of nuclear a fuel pellet
- Application of instrumentation technology for fuel irradiation by using 3-pin FTL,
  to be utilized from 2007
